How taking part works.
These rules explain how participation and public story decisions currently work.
What MillionTale is
MillionTale is one story written and decided by humans, one official sentence at a time. Humans write every candidate, and human votes determine the result.
There are no chapters and no fixed sentence total. Human #1,000,000 is the participation milestone, not a fixed number of sentences. The planned ending lets the active round finish naturally, then stops new rounds.
No payments or donations are currently accepted. Money must never buy writer selection, votes, ranking or influence over the story.
Eligibility and accounts
You must be 16 or older to participate. Reading is public once the story begins. Claiming a Human Number, joining the writer pool, writing, voting and reporting content require Google sign-in.
Keep your account secure. Do not impersonate another person or use multiple accounts, automation or coordinated activity to gain an unfair advantage.
Human Numbers and public identity
Your Human Number is assigned when you claim it during pre-launch, cast your first valid vote, or submit your first valid sentence. Signing in or joining the writer pool alone does not assign a number.
A Human Number is a public pseudonymous identity, not a Google account identity. An applicable Writer Number may identify a winning contribution. These public numbers are permanent historical identifiers and are never reassigned.
Writing and writer selection
Exactly three eligible humans are selected from the writer pool for each round. Joining the pool does not guarantee selection. Each selected writer may submit one human-written sentence in English during the writing window.
Missed turns or safety checks can mean fewer than three approved candidates reach voting. Safety moderation does not judge literary quality or choose the story's direction.
Voting and round outcomes
Eligible signed-in participants may cast one vote during normal voting and one additional vote if a tie opens sudden death. Writers cannot vote in their own round. Votes must be cast before the phase closes, and human votes determine the result. If Sudden Death is still tied, or the deciding phase receives zero votes, there is no winner and no official sentence.
Candidate IDs, document order, timestamps or any other technical ordering never choose a winner.
Public archive and anonymity
Voting is anonymous while a decision is active, and individual voters are not publicly named. Approved candidates and completed vote totals may remain in the public round archive.
Winning sentences become part of the permanent story. After a completed round, only the winning Writer Number may be publicly associated with its Human Number. Losing writers remain anonymous. Rejected or unpublished writing is not permanent public literary history.
Acceptable participation and moderation
AI may assist with safety moderation only. It never writes, rewrites, ranks, selects, or chooses story content. Humans write the sentences and human votes determine the result. Moderators may review submissions and reports, reject unsafe material, restrict participation, or pause or cancel a round to protect people and the project.
Do not submit spam, advertising, private information, impersonation, abusive or dangerous material, or writing you did not create or have permission to contribute. Do not manipulate voting or writer selection, use bots, or bypass safety checks. Follow the community guidelines.
Rights in contributed writing
You retain whatever rights you hold in your writing. By submitting it, you allow MillionTale to review it for safety and present it for voting.
For approved contributions published in the round archive and official winning sentences, you grant MillionTale a continuing, non-exclusive permission to publish, display, preserve, archive and distribute them as part of the collaborative project, and to operate MillionTale. This permission continues after account deletion so the public record can remain intact. MillionTale does not claim ownership of your writing.
Only submit writing you created or have the rights to contribute. Do not include private or confidential information.
Account deletion and historical records
You can request deletion from Account. After a valid request is accepted, new account activity and notifications are frozen. Private account identity is removed or separated from the story record.
If you are currently selected as a writer in an active round, that round may finish naturally before final separation. Public Human and Writer Numbers, approved archived candidates, official contributions, completed results and historical vote totals may remain without your private identity. Public numbers are never reassigned.
Signing in again after deletion completes creates a new MillionTale identity, not a recovery of the previous number or history. See Privacy for more detail, or read how account deletion works.
Availability and changes
MillionTale may be paused or interrupted for safety, moderation, maintenance or operational reasons. Rounds may be delayed, cancelled, or end without an official sentence. Continuous availability or a particular schedule is not promised.
These Terms may be updated as MillionTale changes. The current version will be published on this page. Updates do not rewrite completed vote outcomes or official story history.
Enforcement, reporting and contact
A report does not automatically remove content. MillionTale does not promise a response time or provide a formal appeal process. Participation may be restricted where needed to enforce these Terms or protect the project.
Use Contact for participation, reporting or privacy questions. The current form records messages but does not collect a reply email or provide a reply channel.
